Paperwork
Go inside vicroads and get your attendance marked at the first instance. When LTO call your name then you present your documents which generally include
  • your Learner permit or verified overseas licensec
  • Passport
  • Address Proof
  • Bank or medicare card
  • Any prescripted glasses or contact lenses you might be wearing
  • They wil ask if you take any medication which affects your driving and if your license suspedded or canceled before.
  • After they will give you instructions for they test and at the end ask any question you might have.
  • If you need, I may arrange to repeat instruction or give hand signals during the drive test. Then we will be walking to the . The LTO normally comes to the testing car a bit later!
Predeparture check
Learner sit inside the driver’s seat with the ignition on (engine off), window down. Instructor & LTO will be standing outside the car.
  • LTO ask you to
  • Signal left and right
  • Hazard lights
  • Headlights low and hgh beam
  • Horn
  • Washers n Wipers
  • Brake lights
  • Front and rear Demister
  • Hand brake
I will show you these things in a warm up lesson before the test
Step 1
Basics
Driving instructor will sit at the front passenger seat next to the learner in our dual control car as a safety person and the LTO will sit at the rear passenger seat during the drive test. This stage will be approximately 12-15 minutes .In this stage you will be asked to make

reverse parallel parking or a 3 point turn.

You will have 2 minutes for the parking. At the end of stage one, they will ask you to pull over to the kerb and park the car .You must apply handbrake at this time .LTO will cout your score and if you are successful they will ask you to move on.

Step 2
Busy roads and Lane changes
This stage will take approximately 20-25minutes, will take place in more busy. Your test will finish at the vicroads car park where normally you angle park.

I will take you to these routes before your drive test and will train you on how exactly the test officer will expect you to drive during the test. I will use the exactly same English instruction word-by-word while teaching you and also give you tips during the warm up session to make you feel relaxed in the actuall drive test.

common mistakes you must avoid if you want to pass the test first time

  • Over speeding
  • Failing to give way to vehicles
  • Mount the kerb while parking movements or driving
  • Not obey instructions given by tester
  • Failing to signal
  • Fail to stop properly at a stop sign
  • Forgetting to release handbrake
  • Stopping over the solid line at traffic lights
  • Driving on the wrong side of the road
  • Not using mirrors

Driving safely may not be sufficient to pass the driving test. Since the licence testing officers will be looking into the sequence in which you are performing the task, you must drive according to the criteria that instructor will teach you .Basic rule here is MSH.That is mirror, signal and head check.

Let’s take an example

Instruction (When safe, move to the right lane)

  • Check Internal mirror then Left side mirror
  • Indicate left minimum 3 seconds
  • Adjust speed to create gap if needed while maintaining the speed.
  • After that do a head check and if no one in the blind spot
  • Move gradually to the right lane.
  • Cancel the signal after complete the lane change

It’s okay to indicate/ put blinker on to show your intention of lane change and then wait until it’s safe to do the lane change.

Complex instruction during the test
You are driving in the left lane.

Your instruction: “At the next lights turn left from the right turning lane”.

You must understand the instruction properly. Then you perform the task.Testing Officer is asking you to turn left.Dont get confused turning left from right lane as he said right turning lane.Yes !! there is a difference in right lane and right turning lane.
